EDITORIAL: The road to recovery

Categories: Bellevue Leader, Editorial

The City of Bellevue hasn’t always had a good reputation when it comes to its finances.
A recent audit, however, shows the city in better standing. It has a strong cash reserve, the wastewater fund is filling back up, department heads are staying on budget and more is being done in general to make sure the finances are in check.
Credit for this steady improvement does not go to one person alone, although kudos should definitely be given to former finance director John Collins.
Every department should be commended for tightening their belts and keeping to their budgets. As budgets are being prepared for 2010-11, department heads should bear in mind that having more cash isn’t a blank check but the reason for continued thrift with the goal of a healthy and stable financial future for Bellevue.
