Making the Grade

By Executive Editor Ron Petak

A+  New York Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard

From 1951 through 2007, Sheppard was the legendary voice of Yankee Stadium, very much a part of The Stadium experience as any player on the field. Sheppard died this week at age 99, and it is one of my regrets I never made it to Yankee Stadium to hear him at work.

A  Bellevue Little Theatre

The TAG nominations were announced last week and it’s no surprise the theater garnered 13 nominations. What a gem we have in the Olde Towne district.

D  Me

According to the commercials bombarding my flat-screen television, I’ve been a fool paying my share of federal taxes each year. It seems there are folks out there skipping their annual remittance and then paying 20 cents on the dollar to the IRS just to clear their bill. What a great country we live in.

D-  Soccer’s offside rule

Granted, I’m anything but an expert on the sport, but I’m convinced there would be more offensive attacks in 20 minutes without the rule than there are now in a whole match. I want to see scoring, not boring.
