EDITORIAL: Heat watch
One step outdoors these days is all the reminder we need that the dog days of summer are upon us.
While the heat might be welcomed by some, it can present a danger for the elderly, children and pets. Check on your 77-year-old neighbors to make sure their air conditioning works. If they don’t have AC, be sure fans are going and invite them over for iced tea.
Keep an eye on your kids and the neighborhood kids. If most of them are red-faced after 30 minutes of tag, tell them to take a break and grab some water or Kool-Aid. Look after neighborhood pets, too. If you notice Fido’s water dish is bone dry, help him out.
The heat can be dangerous, so don’t turn a cold shoulder to your neighbors.
