EDITORIAL: Lost founding fathers
Without the contributions of three men who passed away recently, Bellevue would literally be half the town it is today.
Joe Dennis, Bill Brooks and Ray Lind were responsible for much of Bellevue’s early growth in real estate development, education and business.
Dennis, known to many as “Mr. Bellevue,” was one of the founders of Bellevue College (now Bellevue University) and the First National Bank of Bellevue, developed Fontenelle Hills and served on the City Council and Planning Commission.
Brooks was also a founder of Bellevue College, helped establish the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and served on the Sarpy County Board for 12 years.
Lind, an eight-year councilman and 12-year county commissioner, founded the Wake Robin Youth Club and built the Avery Presbyterian Church in 1958.
The city they helped create mourns their passing.
